Lo3 Audio edit screen shots

We used audio transition effects such as constant power and constant gain as a way to transition the sound and music we used in our film. This was used to make the transitions in audio more seamless and enjoyable for the audience. We believe that we have done a good job with transitioning audio and making it work with the scenes. The music and sounds we have chosen are used to link to the themes and conventions shown within the scenes. Things such as whispers and stab sound effects have been implemented to highlight how Ellis's character has become unhinged. Similarly, the stab sound effect and the sad piano music was used to add more dramatic effect to Toby's characters death. We though about Steve Niels (1980) genre theory about repetition and difference when editing to parody, and use similar sound design techniques than products similar to this one. The sad music was used as its similar to the conventions of other products such as Blue story, its used to add more dramatic effect to a scene.

In the original edits of our film, the backgrounds audio within the sound files was very loud and needed to be fixed. This was unfortunately just a problem with the mics we used, as they picked up a lot of unnecessary audio like the wind and construction. In order to fix this we used adobe audition, this allowed us to highlight unwanted audio clips and lower the decibels of it. Which made certain sounds such as the the wind more quiet and made the characters speech more clear throughout the film. After using this technique on all the audio files, we then added them to premier pro and edited our film.

Another problem that plagued our film was clips of the crew talking while filming. This was mostly caused   we weren't being as professional as we should have when filming. Meaning that some of the crew were laughing or talking why filming important shots. To fix this we cut the clips of audio out and added background sound effects from Freesound.org (shown in green in the screenshot above). This made it so that there wasn't any unwanted cuts in the audio that would have effected audience enjoyability.

This is the website Freesound.org which we used to download various audios to use in our film. This proved to be very useful as it offered is a various amount of different sounds so that we were able to pick out the correct one that fit within the scene. After downloading them, we would them add them to premier pro and mix then with the rest of the audio within the film.

After arranging our film and editing it, we realised that the first scene was too quiet for us to hear them as the actors voices were overpowered by the background noise picked up from the camera. To fix this we decided to record a dubbed version of the scene which we then edited in to the film. To make sure that Ellis and Toby said the correct lines we made them read of the script that we had made so that their lines would fit into the pre existing scene. It was enitially difficult editing the audio into the scene as we had to match the audio perfectly with Ellis's acting. This meant chopping the audio so that we could fit it into the scene properly, and make the final product sound more clean and uncluttered.

Using the volume editing section of Premiere, we were able to change the audio lower to fit the volume of the rest of our film. All of these techniques were used so that the films opening shot would be loud and clear for the audience to hear.

We also using slight dubbing techniques within another shot in the first scene. When Ellis charges at Reece and steals his alcohol, we shot multiple takes off this shot from different points in the room. For the shot, we used one audio file and mixed it with the other takes off the shot. So that it felt fluid and didn't distract the audience with audio glitches or cuts.

Doing this aloud us to create a scene that had multiple different shots that cut seemingly and felt fluid combined with the one audio file that we used.
